I merged my business to work less. I ended up working more.
That was Daniel Francavilla's reality.
He went in with a clear plan. Merge the agency, spread the load, then carve out time for speaking, consulting, and teaching. Smart on paper.
But demand was high, strategists were short, and Daniel ended up deeper in execution than ever. Business development, client work, agency ops. Everything he was trying to step back from.
Here's the thing. Merging businesses doesn't automatically create space. If the structure isn't right, you just traded one set of problems for a heavier one.
Freedom has to be built into the deal from day one. Otherwise, you're just two people sharing the same chaos.
P.S. Have you ever made a business decision expecting more freedom, only to end up more buried? What happened?
